"Safe to Stay" is a web application that provides information to help undocumented immigrants facing deportation. We came up with the slogan “Unite for my Stay, Don't Break me Away,” because we believe in unity and giving everyone the opportunity to grow. In order to help them, we have created a website on immigration; the main feature of this website is a map that points out places like counties, churches, and restaurants that have been declared as sanctuaries. A sanctuary is commonly defined as a place of refuge or safety.

The number of undocumented immigrants facing deportation in the United States has dramatically increased since 2016. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is unfairly targeting and tearing apart immigrant families that have already crossed the border. Many risk their lives to leave their unsafe homeland.

We aim to make a difference by bringing awareness to the subject of immigration and inform those with minimal resources. We created a website that identifies sanctuary cities, restaurants, and churches that have allied to protect undocumented immigrants. We hope that families in danger of deportation and separation will be able to use our map and identify places that are “Safe to Stay.”

The hardest part of this project was figuring out what was wrong with our code. It seemed like every time we got one problem fixed, another would occur. For instance, we had issues with all the buttons on our website and the styling wouldn’t work the way we wanted it to. We were able to overcome it by getting help from our teachers and mentors.

"Very helpful and resourceful!"
