A self-tweeting plant that informs and gives unsolicited advice

Our goal is to raise awareness about global warming and its effects on plants and the environment. Follow our self-tweeting plant (@BubsThePlant) who is raising awareness through Twitter about the increasingly warming earth and proper plant care. Our vision is for people to be aware of plants and their crucial role in our environment. We also want young students to explore the power of programming.

According to a Yale study, only "50% of Americans understand that global warming is caused mostly by human activities." We believe the only way to aid the issue, is informing the public about the problem and ways to help.

We are addressing the public, specifically young people, by having Bubs tweet advice, to gain the interest, and global warming facts, to inform.

At first, it was difficult to connect our Python code to the Twitter API. We also ran into trouble with the moisture sensor because it did not come with instructions about how to interpret the readings. We overcame these difficulties by troubleshooting the problem, searching up documentation, and working together to share our ideas.

"Bubs the Plant is gorgeous and brings awareness to the environment in a new way." - Meenakshi R.

Our foundersĀ attended the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program at Expedia. They enjoy programming, informing people about global warming, and being plant moms. For their final project they got a plant (@BubsThePlant) to tweet by itself with the help of code and arduinos!

This project was made by Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program students at Expedia.
