Find opportunities in your area

Opporteenity is a website that connects high school students to different types of opportunities in the Greater Seattle Area. Many of these opportunities include internships, summer programs, tutors, and volunteering opportunities.

We noticed how difficult it is for high school students to find opportunities such as internships, volunteering, summer programs and tutoring, because while teens need these programs, they usually are aimed at very young children or people over the age of 18. There’s no easy way to search for opportunities as a high school student. That’s why we created Opporteenity.

Opporteenity offers teens a location-based search of volunteer, internship, tutoring, and summer programs opportunities, guaranteed to be accessible to them. Teens no longer need to face the frustration of wanting to better themselves but not knowing how, as Opporteenity is there to connect them to their communities. Thus far, we have focused on connecting teens to opportunities in the greater Seattle area, but continue to expand with goals of leaving our positive impact on a larger audience.

We ran into several issues while collecting and sorting data for our website. These included finding APIs that were useful and determining how much information we were capable of collecting in the time we had. We also faced issues concerning JavaScript: making our pages functional in a clean and fluid way. We overcame these challenges with the help of each other, our TAs, online resources that we learned about through Girls Who Code, and a high degree of dedication.

Opporteenity is the spark that will light up your future.

We are a group of high school girls named Anjali, Hailey, and Victoria.  We recently met through the Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program in the summer of 2016, and are excited to continue coding in the future.

This project was made by Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program students at AT&T (Seattle).
