A fun and engaging app to help teach kids how to read!

Esther T, Hannah A, Sophie A

We created an app that intertwines technology and reading, to capture the interests of children who are distracted by today's technologies. We included many interactive elements and teaching methods to cater to different types of learners. Reading can be intimidating to many children--especially those who grow up in busy or non-English speaking households. This app serves as a virtual tutor that helps children read in a fun and engaging way.

Faced with new academic challenges, we often forget that first hurdle--learning how to read. For some children, reading is intimidating. They may not have the practice of reading with parents, especially if they grow up in busy or non-English speaking households. For others, reading is just a boring chore that takes time away from their favorite pieces of technology.

The inability to read can have a damaging effect on a child's self confidence, and abandoning books for gadgets can deprive a child of the critical thinking skills that are built through reading. To solve these problems, we decided to create an app that intertwines reading and technology. GetREADy serves as a virtual tutor that teaches children how to read in a fun and engaging.

Compatibility between Scratch, which requires Adobe Flash, and Apple products. Fixed this by downloading Puffin, a browser that comes with Adobe to open the Scratch programs.
