Damsels & Defense is a game that teaches its users self-defense techniques to combat sexual assault. Our game provides different video lessons for users to learn new self-defense moves. After practicing the move, users then must put the steps they just learned into sequential order to prove that they mastered the material.

We wanted to address the large number of cases of sexual assault not only in the United States, but also globally.

We believe that through accessible self-defense education, people can become prepared for any dangerous situation thrown at them in the future, thereby decreasing the number of sexual assault victims worldwide.

There were certain actions that we were not sure how to execute in p5.js, which was a completely foreign programming language for us, like how to create animations. We attempted to accomplish this by using images to create sprites in our code. However, despite our hopes, that did not work. Finally, after further research and trying various methods, we found a successful method using gifs.

We are a group of rising juniors and seniors in high school. We joined Girls Who Code to dive deeper into the world of coding and to also become more involved in a field where women are the minority.
