An Adventure in Street Smarts and Safety

Alison T, Charisa S, Sabrina S, Terryn J

Cory the Corgi wants to try the new mango bubblegum chocolate-chip swirl ice cream at Cathy the Cat’s Ice Cream Shop. Join Cory on an adventure as he embarks on a journey from his house to obtain a truly sweet prize at the end! In order to arrive safely at the shop, you’ll have to help him navigate the streets of his neighborhood, interact with the people he encounters on the way, and make smart and safe decisions.

Every day, approximately 2000 kids are reported missing. Of these children, 90% have misunderstood directions or miscommunicated their plans. We hope that with our game, we can play a role in reducing those statistics.

Using Unity, a gaming platform, along with an extension called Fungus, we created a friendly game targeting children who are between the ages of 6 and 10 years old.

None of us had used Unity, the program we used to create Corytown, so we had a week to learn it, master it, and create a project with it. Our teachers hadn't used it before either. We did lots of independent research, watched many YouTube tutorials, and relied on each other when facing difficulties.

"This game is so cute and the characters are adorable! You're also tackling a major problem in our communities today."

Alison, Charisa, Sabrina, and Terryn are high-school girls from Girls Who Code at Pixar, 2017. All of them are passionate about technology and improving their communities. Most of the creators of this game have younger siblings which was a large contributing factor as to why they picked this subject.
