Corgi with a Cause

Corgi with a Cause

Debug the city, earn your computer science degree, and prove that girls CAN code!

While brainstorming for final projects, we all agreed on one thing: to create something with a greater meaning than just a video game. So, we decided to take an issue we are all passionate about, the lack of women in technology, and develop a game to raise awareness about this issue. Why tech? Why girls? The technology field is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. However, less than one out of five engineering or computer bachelor’s degrees are being granted to women. We chose to include a Corgi in our game to pay homage to our roots here at Amazon. Rufus the Corgi was one of the first dogs to accompany an Amazon employee who helped initiate the dog-friendly culture here at Amazon.

The problem we face is the lack of women in technology and the lack of conversation about this issue.

We addressed this issue by creating a fun game and informative website to spread awareness about this issue in an engaging way.

We had difficulty embedding our game in the website and learning how to use Object-Oriented Programming in Processing.

This project was made by Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program students at Amazon (Seattle).
