Collect flowers, defeat enemies, and save your hive!

Our game is a vertical scrolling shooter game in which the player controls a bee while collecting pollen and evading enemies. It was created using JavaScript and HTML, while our website uses HTML and CSS, and serves as an online resource with information about the causes of colony collapse and what individuals can do to help solve the problem. We hope that through this site we can spread the message that every creature, no matter how small, deserves to be protected.

Colony collapse syndrome, caused by pesticides, parasites, and environmental degradation, has led to the loss of up to half of American bees in the last 20 years, and this disturbing trend is not slowing down. This is important not only because of the environmental impact the loss of bees will have, but commercial agriculture is dependent upon bees as the primary pollinators of most flowering crops. Without them, everything from almonds to strawberries will disappear.

Despite the fervor of activity surrounding this several years ago, this issue has all but disappeared from the public eye. If we want to solve this problem, raising awareness about the severity of this issue is the first step, and that is what we sought to do with this project.

Some of the most difficult parts of developing this project were integrating the website and game, which we eventually achieved through an iframe, and in learning how to code a game. None of us had ever made a game before, so we really taught ourselves through this project.

We’re a group of Texas girls dedicated to saving the environment.
