Promote local businesses.

Welcome to "A Latte Coffee"! Get it? Like, a lotta coffee? Ah, we just love coffee so much that we decided to create a web application all about it. With this webpage, we hope to place emphasis on smaller, local businesses that struggle to profit with major coffee chains such as Dunkin' Donuts and Starbucks in the way. You, the user, also have the opportunity to explore coffee shops in your area and, if you can't go to a coffee shop, create your own coffee with our recipes and YouTube videos. We hope you enjoy!

Did you know that as of 2012, there were between 25-27 million small businesses in the US? This accounted for 60%-80% of all US jobs according to Forbes Magazine. Why is this statistic important? With an increasing growth of corporate popularity including coffee hubs such as Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts, local businesses are often overlooked as to how important they truly are for the economy.

With “A Latte Coffee”, we hope to solve this problem by encouraging consumers to purchase coffee from local businesses rather than corporate chains by promoting the hipster aesthetic for a wide range of age groups.

A technical problem that we encountered was learning how to use the Google Maps API. This software was used to create our "Explore" page so users can find local and corporate coffee shops in any area they wish using a search bar. We overcame this problem by studying documentation and code samples using Google Developer Tools.

"I really enjoyed how I can search for local and corporate coffee shops in my area and although I am not an avid coffee drinker, this app makes me want to drink and create my own coffee and explore the shops around me" -Vikeilia Pemberton

Arushi, Andrea, Arshia, and Danielle are rising 11th and 12th graders from Atlanta, GA and Nashville, TN. They met this summer through the Summer Immersion Program at GE Atlanta. They have really enjoyed all of the coding and opportunities they have received through this program. Their inspiration for this project, “A Latte Coffee”, arose from the fact that they all love coffee and would like to promote smaller businesses. They all hope to pursue coding in the future as well and hope you enjoy their project!

This project was made by Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program students at GE (Atlanta).
